Following a narrow defeat at home to Ilkley the previous week, Aire-Baildon Bears travelled to Skipton for their second competitive fixture.
From the kick off we knew we were in for a humdinger of a game. Neither team could make much ground early on with both packs dominating in the centre of the pitch. Finally a great break from Ryan led to the first try down the right wing.
The second quarter started to see Bears dominated with talented half-back Joe (Baildon) scoring and Skipton grabbing one back. Aire Forward Tobias made a superb individual drive to touch down. Aire fullback Alex made a darting run down the left before the ball was quickly recycled and the backs reset, with great quick ball through hands enabling Alex to finish a great team try in the right corner.
Jake added to the scoreline following a quick break through a gap in the Skipton defence.
Despite a determined effort, Skipton's smaller squad were tiring by the end of the 3rd quarter and Ryan capitalised to run in 3 more tries with Skipton managing a couple of hard-fought scores of their own.
A very pleasing team performance, including players from the Aire U12 squad, giving players, coaches and parents alike a sense of expectation of things to come this season.
