Aire WIN!

After encouraging performances against high-flying Goole and Wetherby Aire travelled to fellow strugglers Rotherham with hopes of kick starting their season.

A lively start by both teams saw Rotherham take an early lead with a penalty. Six minutes later a well- judged kick to the corner by Nick Holdsworth saw winger Kris Brook collect and beat two men to score. The rest of the half however belonged to Rotherham who scored two converted tries.

17-5 down at half-time and the dream was fading. A penalty for Holdsworth reduced the deficit early in the second half but within two minutes some sloppy defence allowed the home team to increase their lead by a converted try.

To their credit Aire refused to let the sixteen point deficit intimidate them and another Holdsworth penalty nibbled into the difference. In the seventieth minute Aire's pressure paid off and a panic relieving mis-kick by Rotherham was pounced on by the sharp thinking Jonny Mackey who scored. Holdsworth added the penalty and it was game on for the last ten minutes.
Aire continued to attack and with two minutes remaining Ollie Catherall created enough space to send Brooke sprinting the wing for a well taken try. Holdsworths conversion gave Aire the win.
