It is with great sadness that we have learned of the recent passing of one of the founding members of Airebronians – Harry Wallbank.

Harry was an Aireborough Grammar School pupil with an all-round ability at games and sports, with football being his favourite. When the Airebronians Rugby Club was formed in 1970, he joined in our first season and played at Full Back.

He was a ferocious tackler, but he especially excelled in goal and touch kicking which he could do with both feet. He was a Club stalwart and a regular on tours occasionally accompanied by his brother Dave (Crock) and his father Maurice.

Harry also played cricket at Green Lane on both the old ground and at Nunroyd, where he was Second Team Wicket Keeper.

It was a great shame that his career at the Rugby Club was relatively short and, although he played on both the school pitches and at our old ground in Esholt, he had left by the time we had moved into the clubhouse at Nunroyd Park.

The thoughts of everyone at Aireborough Rugby Club are with Harry, his family and friends at this sad time.
