Si takes a look at the season to come

Welcome to the new season at Aireborough RUFC.

I am delighted to announce I’ll be sticking around as Head Coach again but this time around, I will have the assistance of club legend, Matt Osborn, who will lead in training the backs. I’m sure you’ll all join in welcoming Matt to the coaching team, thank you Matt.

I won't dwell on last season. We have been presented with a clean slate, retaining our Yorkshire 3 status for this season and I’m confident we have a strong season ahead.

The one thing I will say though, is that last season we were close in a lot of games but not quite good enough. There are many excuses we could use to explain our failings but like I said, now isn't the time to dwell. Now is the time to look forward to what we hope will be a good year for the Wolfpack.

Preseason has been good, with numbers consistently in the 20s and occasionally creeping into the 30s. The main aim of our sessions has been to bring back that 'feel good factor' as well as introduce a few new systems of play. We’ve welcomed a number of new players to the club and I hope that continues, so that we can regularly put 2 teams out on a Saturday afternoon.

My ask for all involved with Aireborough, is that we ALL get behind the lads. Whether we are doing well or not, the support we get means that our heads will remain held high.

Each week will be a battle from the start given our status in the league last season and so we will enter into each game as the underdog. That suits me! I expect us to cause some 'upsets' throughout the campaign.

So, after completing 2 preseason friendlies, we now focus fully on our first league games with the 1sts away at Rotherham.

Everything that goes into games is going to be positive and I'm interested to see what the lads can achieve.

As the club enters into its 50th year, I hope that we can do ourselves proud in what will be (as is always the case) a real tough season against some great teams in Yorkshire.

Please get behind the boys in numbers and offer positive vocal support as we play.

I look forward to seeing you during and after games in the clubhouse having a beer.

Cheers,

Yours in Rugby,

Si Davies
