Welcome and important dates

I hope, like me, that you are excited about the approaching rugby season.
Our senior squad and coaching team have been training hard during the pre-season, preparing to enter another Yorkshire 3 & Merit League season of fixtures, that will no doubt be as tough and as close-fought as in recent seasons.

Our Junior Sections is going from strength to strength, having recruited a number of new players across various age groups and expanded their coaching team.

What's more, the pitches and floodlit training areas are in much better shape than the last couple of years, having benefited from significant work during the spring and summer months. Let us hope that they will hold up more robustly to any poor weather the winter months throw at us.

A polite reminder to our members, supporters and players that annual membership fees are now payable. Your co-operation in settling these promptly would be greatly appreciated.

As many of you know, 2020 will mark the club’s 50th year in existence as a rugby family. Airebronians RUFC, as we were originally formed, played their first game in September 1970. We are extremely fortunate to have such a fantastic group of players, supporters and volunteers that collectively make a thriving club.

The last 50 years have been a rollercoaster of relegations and promotions, but one thing that has never changed is the strength and passion for rugby that binds us together. We have witnessed young children grow through the club into senior rugby players, relationships form, friendships blossom and links with the community strengthen.

To celebrate this significant milestone, we have prepared an exciting agenda of events that will take place over the next 18 months. More details of each event will follow in due course, but for now, please save these dates in your diary and if you know of anyone who has ever had an association with the club, who we may not have reached out to, please pass on this news:

1.28th Sep 2019, 1pm to 7pm - Anniversary Kit Launch event and 1st XV home game against Baildon.

2.19th Oct 2019 - Ex-players Lunch prior to 1st XV home game against Hemsworth

3.7th to 8th Feb 2020 - Six Nations Beer Festival

4.15th May 2020 - Annual Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony

5.18th Jul 2020 - 50th - Anniversary Festival – an expanded Senior and Junior T & P Tournament

6.24th Oct 2020 – 50th Anniversary, Black Tie Gala Dinner at The Queens Hotel, Leeds. We hope that as many of our members, past members, associates and community friends will join us in celebrating in true rugby style.

Yours in Rugby

Graeme Forster (Large)
