Aire's Bounce Back Season Begins at Burley

Mark Howorth7 Aug 2022 - 18:53

On Wednesday 10 August 2022, Aire’s season gets underway with a pre-season game at Burley RUFC, Kick Off at 7pm!

Aireborough make the short journey down the A65 to Kirkstall Abbey on Wednesday 10 August 2022, to take on familiar pre-season foe, Burley RUFC.

In what is great preparation for the season ahead, Burley provide a good test as to how pre-season training is going and will provide the new Coaching Team with plenty of information about their squad and how it is shaping up. Pre-season training is going well and player numbers have been bolstered by new, returning and upcoming Colts who cannot wait to get started with the Seniors.

Head Coach Granville Sellers, said "Myself and new Backs Coach, James Darkins are genuinely excited about Wednesday night's fixture which will provide opportunity to blood new players and embed our game plan. The prospect of 4 x 20 minute quarters will be ideal to trial different combinations and to put into practice what we’ve been doing on the training paddock."

This Wednesday's game is followed closely with another local trip past Leeds-Bradford Airport to take on Yarnbury RUFC. This match will take place at Yarnbury RUFC (opposite Leeds Trinity University) on Wednesday 17 August 2022, 7pm kick off. Being pre-season games, both sides will look to utilise the segmented game time to look at new players, new tactics and different game plans and both matches are guaranteed to be physically challenging and exciting to watch!

Aireborough's new Coaching Team have been delivering top quality pre-season sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7pm, with a good sized group turning out for training and getting back into competitive shape. Head Coach Granville added, "Increased numbers will certainly drive competition and both of these pre-season games will allow the players to showcase their skills, abilities, team commitment and put down an early marker for selection. Momentum is vital heading into the league fixtures and Burley and Yarnbury will provide a fantastic spring board to get us prepared for the first league game at home versus York Railway Institute RUFC on the 3rd September
