Junior Section celebrates a record year at the Annual General Meeting 2021-22!

Friday 29th April 2022 saw Aireborough Junior's host their first Annual General Meeting since before the pandemic. The event was well attended and Chairman, Andy Wood, was clearly very proud of everything the Junior Section had achieved in the last 12 months.

In his opening remarks, Andy Wood paid tribute to all of the volunteers who give up their time each and every week to ensure that the Club's Junior section is able to function as well as it has. Coming out of a pandemic, the Junior section was slow to come back at first but Chairman, Andy Wood, was proud to announce that by the end of the season the club had record numbers of registered players across nearly every age group from Micros (Under 5s & 6s) up to Colts and had exciting new projects underway with connections being made with local school's to improve access to facilities for the club and to help recruit new players in to the section.

Acknowledging the excellent achievements of the Yorkshire Cup winning Under 14's, the Chair also acknowledged the Under 18's who have recently played Senior rugby! Chairman Wood also took time to thank the parents and children for playing for the club in every age group.

Thanking the Coaches for all of their hard work each week as well as acknowledging the energy and efforts of the Committee, Andy Wood gave special mention to Sarah and Oli Lyles for their amazing efforts in developing and managing the weekly catering and shop which has generated a great amount of income to the section. Special thanks were also given to Lee Paynter for his exceptional work on preparing and arranging the fixtures, Kate Bastian as section Treasurer and Nick and Anne Eager for their hard work in achieving the record-breaking year of registrations and helping all of the players register for the club.

Two volunteer awards were presented on the night; Sarah Lyles was awarded the "Club Person of the Year" and Mark Howorth was awarded the "Newcomer of the Year" for his help as Secretary for the Junior Section as well as coaching the Micros Team.

"The future looks good!" said Andy Wood in his closing remarks and with the nominations for the committee roles and new volunteer roles completed and questions answered during any other business, the meeting was drawn to a close at 20:50hrs.
