Colts Call It a Day
But go out in STYLE!
Aireborough Colts 60 v Yarnbury Colts 26
Aire managed to scrape together 16 players going into this local derby but were soon down to 15 as Hooker Fin Wilkinson left the field of play early due to injury to be replaced by Alex Waugh. Early pressure from the Kick off by Yarnbury saw Aire struggle to work their way out of defence but slowly and surely they did so only to give the opposition an interception pass for Yarnbury to score under the posts.
This seemed to spark Aireborough back into life and pressure from the Kick Off saw Harry Beckwith over in the corner for an unconverted 5 points.
A break out from Aire’s 22 saw Harry Beckwith follow through on his kick ahead only to be pushed off line (twice) by a Yarnbury defender which saw the referee give a penalty try and the full 7 points.
Aire pressed again and in typical fashion Jake Waugh jinked through the Yarnbury defence to score another 5 before a long spell of pressure on the Aire line saw Yarnbury cross from close range to narrow the gap. 17-12.
The final score of the half saw some strong running from centre Will Marchbank crossing near the posts for Jake Waugh to convert.
The second half saw Aire start the stronger with Will Marchbank again crashing through to score and Jake Waugh adding the extras. Captain Mikey Dolan, having played the first half on the wing and then moving to Centre, was next on the score sheet as he broke through a tardy Yarbury defence to score a converted try under the posts. 36-12.
Dan Walker then got into the Act to make the score 43-12 before Yarnbury managed to respond with another 7 pointer.
Again Aire hit back with first Mikey Dolan and then Harry Beckwith crossing the whitewash, Dan Walker adding the extras on the Dolan try. 55-19.
Yarnbury managed another score but too little too late as Aire hit back with a final Dan Walker score in the dying minutes of the game.
A good all round strong performance from every player with the Back Row standing out particularly and a Man of the Match Performance from Harry Beckwith who clearly took the opportunity to show off in front of his Girlfriend.
Sadly this will be the Colts final game. Limited availability with several of the Colts already playing full games on a Saturday for the Senior Squad means that the team is unsustainable and the hard decision to concentrate on the Senior Section has had to be taken, particularly given the First Teams precipitous position in the league.
Players are encouraged to make themselves available for Senior Rugby with immediate effect. There should be 2 games this coming weekend. Training at the Club Monday and Wednesday 7pm.
I would just like to add a big thank you to all the players who have played for this team over the years, all you parents who have turned out whatever the weather, the Coaches Ollie & Jonny, Jason and Gareth and even Dave Beckwith for running the line on occasion!
It has been a privilege.
