Aire produced their best performance of the season to gain a well deserved win over a well drilled Thorn team at Nunroyd Park on Saturday. In response to the performance of all the players it was decided not to award an individual man of the match but to

Aire started well and applied pressure to the Thorne line but to their credit the defence held firm and after fifteen minutes Aire had three Nick Holdsworth penalties to show for their efforts. Thorn then challenged the Aire line but the home defence held firm. On the half hour full back Anthony Clitheroe joined in the attacking line and a well timed pass saw winger Kris Brooke sprinting down the line for a well taken try. Further good work from Aires pack produced a try for second rower Mark Howorth, Holdsworth adding the conversion. A well taken try by Thorne just before the interval gave Aire a 21-5 lead at half time.
Both teams contributed to a second half that was well worth watching both attacked well but the defence from both teams was excellent. A break by centre Nick Holdsworth saw Clitheroe once again come into the line and outpace the visitors defence to score, Holdsworth again adding the conversion. The visitors scored in the seventieth minute to complete the afternoons points tally. Credit must go to both teams for providing an entertaining afternoon.
Aire travel to Old Modernians in the cup next Saturday.
