Phoenix applied the pressure from the kick-off and scored tries in the eight and sixteenth minutes and a penalty on the half hour gave them a 13-0 lead. To their credit Aire refused to lie down and applied the pressure and were rewarded when full back Mark Druce came into the attacking line to skilfully put winger into space and a good finishing run by winger Kris Brook produced a try converted by Nick Holdsworth. 13-7 at half time and all to play for in the second half.
With both teams trying to break the deadlock the spectators were well entertained to an entertaining game of rugby. Phoenix broke the deadlock in the fifty fifth minute with a converted try. In reply Aire camped in the Phoenix half and were rewarded when back rower Jonny Mackey picked up the ball, passed to scrum half Ollie Catherall who gave it to Mark Druce to produce a well taken try converted by Nick Holdsworth. With Aire able to win with a converted try and Phoenix needing another try to seal the win the entertainment continued until the last minute when Phoenix produced the deciding try and conversion.
Aire travel to Skipton in the league next Saturday.
