Both teams started well in this early season encounter at Nunroyd Park and from the early encounters it was difficult to anticipate the final winner.

Aire broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when their backs moved the ball quickly along the line for full back Mark Druce to come into the line and score. A Nick Holdsworth conversion saw Aire take an early 7-0 lead. Both sides produced some enterprising rugby but defences stayed on top and a penalty to Goole for bringing down a maul produced the only further points in the first half.
At 7-3 at half time all was to play for but for some reason Aire could not raise their game. A spate of yellow cards from the referee, directed at both sides, seemed to unsettle the game and the sending off of an Aire player tipped the balance in favour of the opposition. Two well taken tries, one converted, gave Goole the advantage going into the final quarter. Aire tried their hardest but a mixture of bad decision taking and an excellent Goole defence kept them at bay. A last minute converted try probably flattered the opposition but on the day they were worthy winners.
Aire continue to look for a coach and would be willing to talk to anyone interested in developing their coaching career. Aire travel to Harrogate Pythons in the league next week.
