Mistake's cost Aire dearly

Both sides started the game with determination but early indications gave the impression that a big Castleford pack would come out on top. A determined Aire pack proved this was not to be the case.

Castleford broke the early deadlock with a try after 10 mins but from the restart Aire exerted the pressure. After gaining the ball a rolling maul took the ball towards the Castleford line, a scrum resulted and after taking the ball against the head, scrum half Ollie Catherall darted to the blind side to put fly half Matty Osborn in. Nick Holdsworth added the conversion. The game was evenly matched for the next 20 mins, the deadlock being broken by a well taken long range try by Castleford. A further try saw Castleford extend their lead to 15-7. Aire attempted to get back into the game and a well orchestrated move by Matty Osborn saw Chris Blackshaw cross the line again. Holdsworth kicked the conversion and Aire went in 15-14 down at half time.
Unfortunately Aire started the second half sluggishly and within 10 minutes of the restart were 29-14 down and faced an uphill battle which to their credit they took to the opposition. A Nick Holdsworth penalty narrowed the gap and a break down the middle of the field saw back-rower Luke Exley score an excellent individual try converted by Holdsworth. With all to play for both teams tried to break the deadlock but both defences held and a Holdsworth penalty was the only score in the final quarter of the match.
