Aireborough 22 - Knottingley 20

Aire started strongly against their recently relegated opponents pressing for the first 20 or so minutes but without managing to cross the whitewash and this would prove telling as, on their first attack proper, and against the run of play Knottingley crossed for an unconverted try.
Again Aire pressed their opponents who again broke free to kick over a penalty on 34 Minutes. 0-8.
Once again Aire pressed and a number of penalties given away by Knottingley while camped on their own line eventually led to a yellow card.
From a Kick to the line Aire collected and fed Captain Mikey Dolan for their first score of the match.
5-8 at Half-Time.
Immediately from the Kick Off saw Aire make a break to put their Winger Free, rounding the Full Back and with the line at his mercy the Knottingley Full Back tackled high, conceding a penalty, and taking a yellow card. Since the Full Back was the last line of defence, there was no other cover, Aire felt aggrieved that a Penalty Try was not awarded but from the resulting Kick to touch once again Captain Mikey Dolan led the way to score his 2nd try of the game and Aire take the lead 10-8.
On 7 minutes following a solid scrum Havey Sellers chipped over for Full Back Harry Beckwith to pick up and race over under the post for Aire’s 3rd. 17-8.
With the 2 carded player back on the filed Knottingley were once again up to full strength and, although some of their bigger players were visibly flagging they once again set out to arrack Aire’s line and, on 28 Minutes were rewarded with a scrum close to the Aire line in the corner from which they broke blind for an unconverted score in the corner.
Again, 4 minutes later Knottingley founds themselves in the same corner and once again crossed for yest another unconverted score but edging in front, the score now 17-20.
With minutes left Aire pressed and pressed but were becoming increasingly desperate but again Knottingley gave away a Penalty but rather than kicking for the draw Aire gambled and went for the corner. The line was taken and driven on for Will Girt to break blind and cross in the corner on the final whistle. Phew!
A Narrow win. But a 5 point win. Aire will say that they left many points out on the field and it is certainly true that they were at times perhaps trying too hard, going the extra metre rather than going to ground and recycling, that will come, the team improving with every outing and very much gelling as a team.
Next week is their first away game against Leeds Medics, hopefully with a full bench, players make yourselves available on Teamreach.
