We caught up with former scrum half and vice captain Alan Wade to find out the best bits of his time as an Airebronian

Did you attend Aireborough Grammar school as a pupil or member of staff?
Yes as a pupil

If so, what year?
1967-1975

Tell me more about your time there....
It was a 'proper' Grammar School - teachers in gowns etc. some of whom were very strict.
Sport was held in high regard, which was perfect for me

Were you involved with the Old Airebronians rugby team? How?
I started playing for Airebronians whilst still at school, quite often after having played for the school in the morning.
I returned to the club after University and played until 1984. I was scrum half and vice-captain for several years.

What would you say was the best part about being part of the team?
Definitely the camaraderie and the lifelong friends you make.

What skills did you learn from playing/coaching rugby?
Teamwork, discipline, self confidence.

What is your funniest memory of the team?
A rugby tour to Wales, apart from the usual 'high jinks' the driver got lost, got the coach stuck in mud on one of the
playing fields and we had to all get out and push "Frank the driver" - what a nightmare

And your worst....
Any game away at Halifax Vandals

Do you still play now? If so, where?
Goodness no! Only a golf life for me these days!

What have you been up to since you left?
Teaching, Training, retirement

What advice would you give to current players?
Always give your best on the pitch, and join in with the social side whenever possible
